Logan (2017) Review

I often don’t scream in theaters. However, Logan is an honorary exception. It’s Hugh Jackman’s final run as the titular X-MEN character, Wolverine. As cliché as it sounds, I gotta say they saved the best for last. This is a true adaptation of a comic book. This movie is full of action, extreme violence, gore, and drama. What more could a Wolverine fan ask for? It’s worth noting that without the success of last year’s Deadpool, this movie probably would have never gotten the green light.

It’s rated-R and for good reason. This is NOT something children should see. Some may think it is because all of the X-MEN films from the past were PG-13. Well think again. Logan is a contemporary western of a soldier who is tired of fighting. However trouble seems to keep finding him. It reminded me a lot of Clint Eastwood’s Gran Turino. Hugh Jackman poured his soul into this film. Patrick Stewart, who plays Professor X, was amazing! The two play off each other very well.

The person who stole the show was Dafne Keen who plays Laura/X-23. This little girl is a true thespian. I can tell you that she will have no problem finding work after her spectacular performance. I love the way this movie was shot. It’s very gritty with shades of Blade Runner and Mad Max. If you enjoyed those classics, then you’re in for a treat. This is an awesome blood-pumping extravaganza.

My birthday is this month and I couldn’t ask for a better gift. Every weekend a blockbuster is being released in theaters. It’s a great time to be a movie goer. Hugh Jackman deserves an academy award nomination for the work he put in. Even though it’s the last time we’ll see him as Wolverine, there could be no better send-off. Logan gets a 10/10.
