Mortal Kombat (2021) Review

Oh my gaawt!!! This movie brought me so much joy. I am impressed with what the writers were able to do with the story. It was very grounded for the subject matter it was adapting. Gods, demons, and super powered beings. After watching this I am hyped for a sequel. Sub-Zero (Joe Taslim) was the stand-out for me. Do you know how hard it is to act with half your face covered? This guy deserves an award for villain of the year.

Kano (Josh Lawson) is superstar, they guy stole every scene he was in. What you’ll probably find interesting is how the characters obtain their abilities. I won’t spoil it, but I assure you, it will divide fans. The only bad thing I have to say about the film are some of the visual effects. A lot of it is hidden in scenes that take place during the night.

Stylistically, this a great piece of art. If you are curious about the R-rating, know that it was well earned. Fight scenes are spectacular. Many of the signature moves from the video games are present, there is blood galore, as well as fatalities. What’s not to love? This might be a flawless victory for Warner Bros. Mortal Kombat gets an 8.5 out 10.
