Children of the 90s are going to love this. Psycho Goreman is the love child of Jeepers Creepers and Goldar. He’s a monster that takes pleasure in murdering people, all while being a complete goofball. This film is not to be taken seriously, its a tongue-in-cheek parody of the genre. Think of it as an R-rated Power Rangers on cocaine. The makeup/effects are mostly practical so you get all the realistic violence and gore as the title suggests.
The story revolves around two siblings, Mimi and Luke, that unknowingly unleash a vicious creature from its prison. That creature is Psycho Goreman, who possesses countless abilities, which he uses to dispatch of anyone he encounters. You will be thoroughly entertained by the outrageous kill sequences in this movie. The guy literally exist to cause destruction and strike terror throughout the universe. No one is safe, except for Mimi, who can control him with a magical gem that serves as the McGuffin.
I was surprised by the amount of world building that was done. Goreman actually felt like an alien from another world. You get a true sense of how menacing he really is. Throughout the film, he shares his backstory, and the culture of his people. In addition, the arrival of the “hero” is subverted in a way that feels somewhat refreshing. The jokes and hardcore soundtrack make for a good rental. Alcohol is considered but not required for enjoyment. I give it a 6 out of 10.
