Species (1995) Review

This is a classic! Species is rated-R and for good reason. There is nudity and murder galore. The film is the literal portrayal of the femme fatale trope. I really enjoyed watching the story play out in typical 90’s fashion. It’s a manhunt procedural mixed with horror elements. The narrative is told from the view of the hunter and her pursuers.

Sil (Natasha Henstridge) is the antagonist and main character. She is a human/alien hybrid grown in a lab. She escapes and all help breaks loose. This movie is a product of its time and the only thing dated is the visual effects. The plot is simple and moves pretty fast, which is a good thing as it clocks in shy of 2 hours.

Forest Whitaker, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina, Michael Madsen, and Marg Helgenberger all play unique characters. The type that wouldn’t usually work together or cross paths. This provides some interesting dialogue and interaction. You can probably find this available for streaming at a low price if not free. Species gets a 6.5 out of 10.
