Kong: Skull Island (2017) Review

Let me start by saying that this is the best King Kong movie to date. Yeah Peter Jackson did a decent job back in 2005. However, Kong: Skull Island puts that one to shame. It’s a refreshing take on the origin of King Kong. It’s simple and straight forward too. So the whole family can enjoy the monstrous entertainment. It has a serious cast as well.

Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson,  John C. Reilly, and the list goes on. The actors really embody the characters of the time period. Some of their talent was underutilized and wasted. While others shine as antagonists or supporting characters. I like that the movies doesn’t take itself too serious. It knows exactly what it is.

This is a child’s dream come true. An island of monsters battling for survival. It doesn’t get any better than that. The world of Skull Island is so mystical and majestic. The environment was just gorgeous. I got some Jurassic Park vibes when new creatures were introduced. Which is a good thing because the 90’s were an awesome time for cinema especially action flicks.

The fight scenes in this movie are EPIC! Kong plays no games and takes no prisoners. He is definitely cut from a different cloth than the local predators. If you’re trying to save some bucks wait for it to come out on Redbox. It’s a decent film but not worth rushing to the theater to see. Kong: Skull Island is a humble piece of art worthy of a 6 out of 10.
