Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) Review

This movie was a ton of fun! As expected, the soundtrack was superb. The visuals were mind-blowing and parallel to an acid trip. Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2  is definitely one of the best films to come out this summer. It’s hard to mix action and comedy. If done wrong it can be really cheesy. However, GOTG 2 managed to blend the two seamlessly to create some epic entertainment.

The cast of the original returns with Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, and Dave Bautista. There are some fresh faces to the franchise as well. Michael Rooker as Yondu was a standout. I mean this guy brought it. I would argue that this time around, it was his story. Each character is on their own personal journey, all of them intertwining at some point. The movie explores a lot of themes. Such as relationships, family, redemption, and loyalty.

Trust me when I say, that despite all the drama, this movie is funny as ever. You will be laughing throughout the entire film. Even in moments of tension, there is humor. The dialogue and interaction between characters are what makes it so interesting. It’s not just a bunch of giant set pieces with explosions. GOTG 2 is a layered narrative that continues to reveal the mythos of the cosmic Marvel universe.

The only gripe I had was with the villains. This is usually the case, as the bad guys only exist to support the heroes arc. I liked that it was self-contained and didn’t have to tie-in to the other films. There are a few post-credit scenes so don’t be too quick to leave your seat. Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 gets an 8.5 out of 10.
