I’m glad I waited to buy this movie used on Blu Ray. Godzilla: King of the Monsters is another visual effects smorgasbord. Lots of cool and impressive imagery but no substance. What should have been a simple premise of giant creatures colliding turned out to be a human narrative. No one cares about humans, not even humans.
This film should have laid the ground work for a Godzilla VS King Kong. Instead it spent more than half it’s run time focusing on a genocidal mom working with terrorists. No back story is really given and the viewer knows less about “The Titans” at the end than when the movie started. It was even more disappointing with all the talent involved.
Kyle Chandler, Millie Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, Sally Hawkins, and even Charles Dance. All of their efforts wasted by screaming, crying, and surviving ridiculously impossible situations. When the monsters did brawl, it was a treat. Loved seeing Godzilla without smoke and fog obscuring him. This is one of those movies you turn on while cooking or folding clothes. Godzilla: King of the Monsters gets a 4 out of 10.
