Netflix has been trippin’ as of late with all the doom and gloom films. Last month they had How It Ends, an apocalypse film about a guy trying to find his fiancee. Now they deliver this fast-paced stinker Extinction. It had such promise and a lot of talent to work with. Sadly they did not capitalize off it.
I caught this one on a Sunday night. Extinction is about a family fighting to survive an “alien” invasion. The cast includes Michael Pena, Lizzy Caplan, Amelia Crouch, and Erica Tremblay. Michael Pena’s character, Peter is having visions of destruction and death. No one believes him. In typical Noah fashion, shit starts going down. Down the drain that is.
The whole narrative felt aimless. As if it was fighting to be something else. It’s hard to feel connected to the characters too. The viewer isn’t given a reason to care or spend time with them. Storytelling is rushed and unrefined. This one gets a 4 out of 10.
