When I saw this trailer, I knew at that moment, this show was bound for greatness! Set in Victorian London, a group of people with strange abilities fight for their survival in an evolving world. This isn’t X-MEN or The Avengers, there is an otherworldly force at play. One our protagonists, Amalia (Laura Donnelly) and Penance (Ann Skelly) are trying to discover and understand. You see, Amalia has the gift of foresight, which allows her to see random events in the future. She’s also a very capable fighter.
There are men in power that feel threatened by those who have acquired abilities. While others see “The Touched” as an opportunity for financial gain. You don’t know who to trust, almost every single character has an ulterior motive, and even more secrets. Not a single scene goes by where there isn’t conflict or a big action sequence.
This show is filled with a diverse cast of talent. I appreciate the pacing, there are no dull monologues. The tension created is offset by sex scenes and/or extreme violence. You never know who is going to be on the receiving end of a beat down. In the final act, there is a reveal that creates more questions than answers. The Nevers has enough mystique to keep you coming back for more. I give it an 8 out of 10.
