Only The Brave (2017) Review

Going into this film, I had no idea it was based on true events. Only The Brave is a biography of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. A group of firefighters who risked their lives to stop a raging wildfire. This thing is full of action and drama. It’s storytelling at it’s best! You will grow to love and care about these characters. Trust me.

The cast is stacked with talent. Josh Brolin, Miles Teller, Jeff Bridges, Jennifer Connelly, and Taylor Kitsch. Everyone has their own journey but their paths are intertwined in a wonderfully crafted tale of triumph. Forest fires are a real bitch. I came away from this movie with more of an appreciation for nature. Arizona never looked so beautiful. Even though there are dark elements present throughout the film, the tone remains relatively optimistic.

It surprised me how the writers & director were able to blend so many themes together. Family, relationships, perseverance, heartbreak, pride, and redemption. If it isn’t already, Only The Brave should be in the conversation for an award nomination. So many people were sniffling in the theater. Hell, even my eyes got a bit watery. This movie is a damn good one. So go check it out and spread the word. My verdict 8.5 out of 10.
