The Meg (2018) Review

I think it’s safe to say we’ve all had our fair share of shark movies. Since Jaws, the quality of killer shark flicks have declined rapidly to the point where they’re just comical. The Meg attempted to right this wrong but to no avail. It starts off as a serious film and quickly descends into a campy mess with cheesy dialogue.

The Meg stars Jason Statham, Bingbing Li, Rainn Wilson, Cliff Curtis, and Winston Chao. Statham plays the role of an infamous deep-sea diver, Jonas Taylor. Who is tasked with rescuing a team of scientists from a submarine. Things get chaotic as they are attacked by a prehistoric shark known as the megalodon.

This movie is pretty dull. It could have benefited from an R-rating. The one-liners in this movie are terrible. Feels like an 80s cartoon at times. I feel the actors could have been given more to do. Many of the cast are just standing around panicking and falling into the water for no reason. This is a movie you watch while folding your laundry. Just turn your brain off and let it play. The Meg gets a 5.5 out of 10.
