I’m a big fan of the Leprechaun franchise. He’s one of the few characters that stood out from the other movie monsters of the 90s. Seems like all the horror classics are getting a makeover these days. Leprechaun Returns continues that trend and manages to stay true to the spirit of the original released in 1993.
Leprechaun Returns retcons the sequels of old and takes place 20 or 30 years after the events of the first film. Linden Porco takes on the role of the miniature antagonist terrorizing a group of college students. It’s a good time throughout. The movie knows what it is and embraces the spirit of the slasher comedy.
I love how self-contained the story it is. There are nods to the previous iteration with modern updates. The leprechaun is both entertaining and scary as hell. It has some unique kill sequences throughout. If you want to watch a movie with gore, jokes, and creepy imagery I highly recommend it. Leprechaun Returns gets a 6.5 out of 10.
