IT: Chapter Two (2019) Review

I’m gonna come right out and say this movie is long as hell. There are few and far movies in between that can earn the run time of an Avengers: Endgame. This movie is NOT one of them! There was no subtly or suspense whatsoever. I was overwhelmed by the jump scares. They occurred so frequently that I became numb to it.

Most of the people who’ve seen the marketing for IT: Chapter Two know it’s full of sexy middle-aged actors. They even got the Old Spice guy in it. 27 years have passed and our beloved Losers have grown up. The creature that terrorized them in the past is back to feast on the children of Derry, Maine. So the group must unite to stop IT.

Pennywise is a lot more brutal. Instead of shape-shifting into what some fear most, he just flat out chomps on victims. This was a bit perplexing because that was his main objective in the previous film. Some visual effects were hit or miss in some scenes. The writers ask a lot from the audience when it comes to suspending belief.

I am convinced that cops don’t exist in Derry. One of the highlights are the adult Losers. The jokes and interactions between them as old-time friends was very convincing. However, this was not the case when it came to screen time. As James McAvoy’s character Bill starts to hog up the spotlight. This is where I got bored.

Many questions are left unanswered and key characters undeveloped. When it comes to this sequel, they should have produced a third installment, fleshing out all the concepts from the book that was forcibly included. IT: Chapter Two gets a 6.5 out of 10.
