“YOU’LL FLOAT TOO!” One of the most spine chilling lines you’ll ever hear outside of a swimming instructor. Holy sh*%! This movie was terrifying to watch. However, I left the theater thoroughly entertained. As a fan of the original TV miniseries, I was really hyped for this R-rated take on Stephen King’s IT. The first 10 minutes of the film sets the tone of what you’re about to watch and it’s disturbing as hell. Still can’t get it out of my head.
Just so you know, this is not a film for children. Unless you’re trying to scare them straight or cause trauma. Director, Andres Muschietti is a genius when it comes to the horror genre. His style is grounded, contemporary, and in-your-face. The way this movie is shot, you get a nostalgic feel of the 80’s. There are shades of other coming-of-age films like Stand By Me and The Sandlot present throughout. All the comparisons stop there, because it gets real very quickly for a group of kids.
Bill Skarsgård, as Pennywise The Dancing Clown was repulsive. I mean this guy gives creepy a whole new meaning. Looking at him, you can tell his intentions aren’t good. Yet you don’t know just how bad they are. If it wasn’t obvious from the promos, this clown is the creature they call IT and aptly named so. Your heart will be racing when you see him on-screen striking the fear of God into children. Very little cliché jump scares in this one, let me tell you. I yelled WTF every time Pennywise made a move. Go watch IT but not by yourself. My score for this film is 10/10.
Yeees, can’t wait to see it, yeah that’s a pun! Lol
