Invincible (2021-) Review

I think the last animated property to make me cry was Pixar’s Up. Well that’s no longer the case. Invincible, based on the books by Image Comics, is a galvanizing story! One that will keep you wanting more but weary of the outcome. I can’t see this being adapted to live action and having the same effect. The voice talent in this show are top notch. Steven Yeun, Sandra Oh, J.K. Simmons, Zazie Beetz, Zachary Quinto, and more.

The animation is clean and minimal, which makes the extreme violence and gore so unsettling to watch. Sound design in this show is orotund in delivering gut wrenching fight scenes. You feel the impact of every strike, crash landing, and fatality. I’m not one to shy away from explicit visuals but even I found myself disturbed at times.

DO NOT let your kids watch this. This series is for mature audiences only, trust me. It gave me vibes similar to the nightmare sequence from Zack Snyder’s Justice League. My mouth was hung open watching the finale. One of the most brutal betrayals I have ever seen onscreen. It had me emotional and that is a good thing. Don’t miss out on the action, go watch it now. Invincible gets a 9 out of 10!!!
