His Dark Materials (2019-) Review

I am obsessed with this show! When my friend told me about it back in March, I binge watched it for a whole week. It’s so alluring, the world is massive with vibrant colors and special effects akin to a James Cameron film. His Dark Materials is fantasy and sci-fi combined. It’s an immersive story you’ll want to get lost in and possibly not leave.

No expense was spared in this epic adventure. It boasts a diverse cast loaded with veteran talent as well as newcomers. The story revolves around a young girl, Lyra Silvertongue (Dafne Keen), who is tasked with saving her world from an oppressive organization known as the Magisterium. Lyra’s mission is no simple feat as she is being hunted by humans, monsters, and other supernatural beings. In addition to that, someone is kidnapping children!

Shapeshifting animals’ aka daemons are physically and emotionally linked to humans. Yet they retain a will of their own. This creates a unique dynamic in how characters interact. There are multiple dimensions, ethereal beings, and a mysterious element known as “dust.” His Dark Materials has so much to offer and will leave you wanting more. I give it a 9 out of 10.
