We’re keeping with the demonic possession theme. This time we’re exploring a Marvel property in the mature Hulu universe. Helstrom is rated R and all about that violence. It’s a breath of fresh air to see the more occult characters. Daimon and Ana Helstrom are siblings and the offspring of an extremely powerful entity. One that has the human and demon world shooketh.
These two got problems, I’m talking serious childhood trauma. It affects them in their daily lives and how they interact with each other. Both have shared supernatural abilities and unique ones of their own. Daimon exorcises demons out of people and Ana exacts vengeance on sadistic criminals. It’s a true embodiment of the yin & yang dynamic.
Now let’s talk demons! From the jump, it’s established there is a hierarchy. There are those that want to do their own thing and live through humans. While others only want to cause suffering and eat people. What I found most intriguing is these demons have a past life, where they once walked the Earth in physical form. Listen to me, they are some ugly muthafuckas.
Special effects are dope! Cinematography is consistent, worthy of the big screen experience. The cast is diverse and full of faces I’ve never seen before. All of them are excellent in their performances. So much that, I think they deserve a spin-off or two. I wouldn’t call this a superhero show, more of an antihero origin story. There’s some scary shit in here, eat your heart out Conjuring 3.
This show has action, mystery, gore, and plenty of demons. Some of the imagery will haunt your dreams. It’s what Doctor Strange could have been if it leaned more into the horror side. There are no filler episodes or dull moments. Helstrom was satisfying to watch, and I highly recommend you give it a go. I think it deserves a 9 out of 10.
