I present to you the film that introduced me to BDSM, Hellbound: Hellraiser II. Another creation from the man that brought you Candyman, Clive Barker. It is far different from any horror movie I’ve ever seen. Although it is a slasher, there is something high art about it. The muted colors and cinematography embody a Gothic or art decor aesthetic.
The movie is a continuation of the events from the 1987 film, Hellraiser. Kirtsy’s wicked stepmother is resurrected by a mad doctor. In doing so, the Cenobites are released from Hell. The Cenobites are some seriously fucked up bad guys. I mean that in the most literal term. They’re barely human and are passively sinister.
I haven’t seen anything like them onscreen to date. As far as stories go, this one is a mess. Convoluted by three different plot threads. It’s not a bad movie per se, just one you shouldn’t take seriously. If bondage and body horror is your fetish this will satisfy your desire. Hellbound: Hellraiser II gets a 4.5 out of 10.
