Let me save you a little time. GO WATCH THIS NOW!!! This is a true Lovecraft inspired acid trip. Nicholas Cage plays the patriarch of a small farm. He has a wife and two kids. It’s the usual nuclear family trope of the supportive wife, the good kid, and the rebellious sibling.
Despite that, the characters have some complexity. This is established through dialogue and scenes where we spend time with them alone. It doesn’t take long for the story to ramp up after a meteorite crash near their home. The color of it is an interesting plot device.
This movie is the love child of the original Creepshow and Slither. The cinematography is awesome! Whoever shot this was intent on causing seizures. Vibrant colors and stylized lighting really make the practical creature designs pop off the screen. Color Out of Space is an exceptional horror film. I give it a 9 out of 10.
